Free Rice →
FreeRice has two goals: Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free. This is made possible by the sponsors who advertise on this site. Whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a street child in a poor country, improving your vocabulary can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself. Perhaps even greater is...

Facebook vs Opensocial
In 1995, Microsoft believed that its proprietary development tool, codenamed “Blackbird”, would be the dominant platform for creating rich online experiences. While it would eventually evolve into a tool that created reasonably standard HTML, Blackbird’s ability to make attractive and pleasing aesthetic experiences for MSN was considered a no-brainer to replace regular HTML for...

What are the things you expect to have a logo on and what without? Would you pay more for chicken that has a logo imprinted on its thigh? Or sofa with a designer label right smack in the middle? You’ll want your diamond ring to be free of any logo yet you’ll never touch a watch with any logo. Food for thought.

Little wonders
Let it go, Let it roll right off your shoulder Don’t you know The hardest part is over Let it in, Let your clarity define you In the end We will only just remember how it feels Our lives are made In these small hours These little wonders, These twists & turns of fate Time falls away, But these small hours, These small hours still remain Let it slide, Let your troubles fall behind you...

Lies
You lie for a living. You’re not a bad person, not really, but telling the truth at your current company tends to get people fired. And you can’t afford to be fired. You’re thirty seven, you’ve got three kids, you’ve got a big house to pay for, your wife would leave you within nanoseconds if the cashflow ever dried up, and it’s been well over over a decade...

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear—not absence of fear.  Except a creature be part coward it is not a compliment to say it is brave; it is merely a loose misapplication of the word.  Consider the flea!—incomparably the bravest of all the creatures of God, if ignorance of fear were courage. Whether you are asleep or awake he will attack you, caring nothing for the fact that...

Scroogled
The following is an excerpt from Cory Doctorow’s short story “Scroogled,” published in Radar Magazine. “Evening,” Greg said, handing the man his sweaty passport. The officer grunted and swiped it, then stared at his screen, tapping. A lot. He had a little bit of dried food at the corner of his mouth and his tongue crept out and licked at it. “Want to tell me...

Daffodils
I wandered lonely as a Cloud That floats on high o’er Vales and Hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in...
